Lambda for EducationMoodle™ & Totara™ · Managed hosting

Moodle is your platform. Running Moodle shouldn’t be your job.

Lambda has run Moodle and Totara for colleges, universities, and school divisions since 2002 — hosting, upgrades, plugin work, integrations, and expert support — so your team spends its time on teaching and learning instead of tickets.

01 · The gapWhere it shows up in the term

Most institutions don’t have a Moodle problem. They have a staffing problem.

Moodle is open source, and the community will get you started. Somewhere past a few thousand accounts, “the community will help” stops being a plan.

Expertise

The skills gap shows up at the worst time

Plugin conflicts, failed upgrades, and performance problems don’t wait for reading week. Solving them in-house means pulling the people you need on course design onto a server problem instead.

Uptime

Unscheduled downtime costs you faculty

An LMS that drops during registration or finals isn’t a technical incident. It’s the reason instructors quietly go back to email attachments and never fully come back.

Fragmentation

Moodle, the SIS, and the reporting sit apart

Enrolments reconciled by hand, completions exported to spreadsheets, and a reporting request from a dean that takes a week to answer.

02 · What Lambda does differentlyRun properly, not just hosted

Hosting, expertise, integration, and reporting — from one team.

Lambda is not a data centre reselling capacity. It is a team that has worked in the Moodle codebase since 2002 — one that knows your plugin stack, your upgrade path, and what breaks in the first week of term.

Managed hosting

Moodle hosting run by Moodle people

Provisioning, scaling, backups, patching, and version upgrades handled end to end. You keep full control and ownership of your instance — Lambda keeps it running.

Expert support

Support that already knows your stack

Named support staff who have seen your plugins and your theme before, rather than a queue that escalates every Moodle question to somebody you never speak to.

Integration

Connected to the SIS and the IdP

Student information system enrolment sync and single sign-on through your identity provider, so registrars and IT stop reconciling class lists by hand.

Credentialing & reporting

Certificates, CEUs, and the completion answer

Totara™ for recertification windows, competency frameworks, and CEU records. Zoola Analytics™ for completion, engagement, and at-risk reporting a dean can read without an export.

03 · Who it’s forEveryone who owns the LMS

Four kinds of institution, one platform team.

Post-secondary IT

For central IT and the LMS owner

Full control and ownership of the instance, without carrying upgrades, patching, and 2 a.m. incidents on a team that is already short-staffed.

Continuing education

For continuing and professional studies

Non-credit programs, CEU records, and cohort delivery on the same instance as the rest of the institution — with a storefront available when a program has to sell.

K-12 division

For school divisions and district PD leads

Staff professional development and student courses on one platform, with the completion records the division is required to report on.

Colleges & providers

For career colleges and education providers

Career colleges, nursing programs, and independent providers running accredited delivery — where the platform has to hold up to an accreditor, not just to a term.

04 · When programs need to sellFor the programs with a revenue line

Not every program is free. Some have a number.

Continuing education units, career colleges, and independent providers run a revenue line alongside the academic one. Lambda Store™ handles that on the same platform as delivery, so a purchase becomes an enrolment in Moodle without an export, an invoice, and a manual add.

Storefront

A branded storefront on your own domain

Product pages, checkout, promotions, and bundles under your institution’s brand — not a third-party marketplace that owns the relationship with your learner.

Group purchasing

Individual and organizational purchasing

Credit-card checkout for individuals alongside group seats, corporate accounts, and PO-based purchasing for employers enrolling a cohort at once.

05 · ProofNamed, not aspirational

Two decades of Moodle, in institutions like yours.

20+

Years running Moodle

Lambda has hosted and supported Moodle for colleges, universities, and school divisions since 2002.

2M+

Across education, healthcare, associations, and compliance programs running on Lambda’s learning platforms.

99.9%

Uptime

So the LMS is up during registration week, during midterms, and on the night an assignment is due.

Rutgers University · Anu Goyal, ITeS Manager — “The key thing really is, it is the cost savings we experience in working with Lambda, but it’s also the experience, and really the knowledge of Moodle that Lambda’s Expert Support team has.”

“One unexpected benefit has been that we now have additional time to work with instructors creating innovative learning experiences rather than debugging technical problems with Moodle. We have Lambda’s experienced staff to take over when the unexpected occurs.”

Peter Lindsay · Instructional Designer — Assiniboine Community College

FAQ Straight answers

Frequently asked questions.

We already run Moodle ourselves. What actually changes?

Ownership of the instance stays with you; the operational load moves. Provisioning, scaling, backups, patching, version upgrades, plugin conflicts, and performance tuning become Lambda’s work. Institutions tend to notice the change first as time returned to instructional design, not as a line on an invoice.

Can you migrate our existing Moodle — courses, users, and grades?

Yes. Migrating an existing instance, including course content, user accounts, grades, activity history, and plugins, is routine work. We scope your specific Moodle version, plugin stack, and integrations before you commit, so you know what carries over and what needs rework rather than finding out mid-migration.

Does this integrate with our student information system and single sign-on?

Yes. Enrolment sync with the SIS and single sign-on through your identity provider are standard parts of an institutional deployment. Bring the list of systems you need connected and we will confirm what is supported for your specific versions before anything is signed.

Do we need Totara, or is Moodle enough?

Moodle is enough for most academic delivery. Totara™ earns its place when you have recertification windows, competency frameworks, or CEU records that have to be tracked and proven — common in nursing, allied health, and continuing professional education. If you don’t have that obligation, you don’t need it.

What does it cost, and what is included?

Pricing depends on active user counts, the hosting tier, and the integrations you need. It is quoted as one number covering hosting, support, upgrades, and implementation rather than a stack of separate line items. Book a demo and we will scope it against your actual instance.

06 · Next stepNo prep. No hard sell.

Bring your Moodle, your plugins, and your integration list.

No prep required. No hard sell. We work with colleges, universities, and school divisions every day — we will look at your actual instance and give you a straight answer on what moves cleanly, what needs rework, and what it takes.
