Day one starts before day one, or it costs a shift
A hire exists in your HR system before they arrive. Orientation, role-specific competency and preceptor sign-off are assigned from that record, so the first day on the unit is not the first day of enrolment.
Orientation costs a week of everyone’s time, every cohort
Clinical onboarding is built around a start-date cohort, and clinical hiring does not run on start-date cohorts.
Cohorts that are not cohorts
Hires arrive continuously, so a scheduled orientation either delays a start or runs for two people, and both outcomes cost more than they should.
One path for every role
A respiratory therapist, a ward clerk and a critical care nurse sit through the same generic week because building a path per role is manual work nobody has time for.
Preceptor time, unmeasured
Sign-off happens on paper at the bedside, so nobody can see which new hires are progressing until the preceptor is asked.
Slow onboarding does not cost training. It costs coverage
Every day between a start date and a fully oriented clinician is a day the unit covers with overtime or agency. The training budget is not where that shows up, and it is not the number anyone is measuring.
It also lands on the new hire. The first weeks set whether someone stays, and an orientation that feels improvised is an early signal about the organization.
Onboarding assigned the moment the hire exists in HR
The record drives the path, so a rolling start is the normal case rather than an exception to manage.
Assignment before the start date
Pre-start modules are released against the hire record, so mandatory content can be complete before the first shift rather than during it.
A path per role and unit
Role, unit and credential determine the path. Defined once, applied to every subsequent hire into that role without rebuilding anything.
Preceptor sign-off in the record
Observed competencies are signed off against the learner record with a date and an assessor, so progress is visible without asking.
Rolling starts, not cohorts
Each hire progresses on their own timeline and reports against the same requirements, which removes the reason to batch people into an orientation week.
What one record makes possible
Brightshores Health System runs 2,300 staff on Lambda Learning. Lambda Learning Inc. has built learning platforms since 2002.
| Brightshores Health System | Result |
|---|---|
| Staff on one record | 2,300 |
| Reduction in reporting time | 70% |
| Manual reporting hours saved since April 2026 | 40+ |
Bring your orientation checklist. We will build it as a path
Bring the checklist for one role and the sign-offs that go with it. We will build the path on screen and show what a hire sees in the week before they start.
